Christmas Tree Decorating Contest - Sponsored by L'Anse DDA
This is a magical time of year. How else to explain the Christmas tree forest that springs up in L’Anse every year around this time? For ten years now, the DDA-sponsored holiday trees have graced the downtown streets throughout December, adding a little ho-ho-ho to the outside of participating businesses and brightening spirits - not to mention earning thousands of dollars over those years for local charity.
This year there will be 42 decorated trees standing for inspection, asking for donation votes. Inside each host store, restaurant, repair shop and office, visitors will be asked to vote for their tree by placing money in a vote jar usually found sitting on a counter by their cash register. The three businesses collecting the most money will be named winners and receive a cash prize: $175 for 1st place, $125 for 2nd and $75 for 3rd.
Of course, they’re not going to be the only winners. All vote money collected this year, as it so often has in the past, will go to St. Vincent de Paul’s in L’Anse to help make everyone’s Christmas a little merrier. Therefore, voting early and often is strongly encouraged. So is stuffing the ballot box. Because there are absolutely no losers in this contest.
