Tax Due Dates/Delinquent Fee Information

Tax Due Dates Information: The following timeline describes in general terms the major deadlines involved in the foreclosure process:

July 2011 summer taxes and December 2011 winter taxes:  2011 property taxes billed by and due to the city or township Treasurer

Taxes are Delinquent - if 2011 taxes are not paid by March 2, 2012 - unpaid 2011 property taxes are forwarded to the County Treasurer for a collection.  A 4% administration fee, along with 1% per month interest is added

October 1, 2012 the County Treasurer adds a $15 fee to each parcel.

Property is Forfeited: - On March 1, 2013: Property is forfeited to county treasurer.  County Treasurer adds a $195 fee. Interest increases from 1% per month to 1.5% per month, back to March 2, 2012.

September 1, 2013: $40 fee is added.  A personal visit is made to each property between September and October.

December 1, 2013: $50 fee is added.  Property address and names of all parties of interest are published in local newspaper. 

February 2014:  Show cause and Circuit court hearings are held.  Judgement of foreclosure is entered.  From the judgement date, property owners have until March 31st to pay the taxes.

Property is forclosed: April 1, 2014: Clear title to the property passes to the county.

August/September 2014: Property is sold or transferred.

You can not get your property back after it has been foreclosed.    Foreclosure is final and property that has been foreclosed will be sold at public acution.

DELINQUENT TAXES

BARAGA COUNTY IS NOW ONLINE WITH TAX, DELINQUENT TAX, AND ASSESSING INFORMATION (2010)

Follow the link below to search the internet services provided by BSA Software Internet Services to create an account.  You can search property and land as well as assessing comparables, complete current tax information searches and delinquent tax searches.

 Once there you can choose the county and you can create an account and research information on Baraga County Assessing, current tax information and delinquent tax information. Searches can be performed by Name, Address, or Parcel Number.

AUCTIONS/TAX SALE INFORMATION

Auctions are held twice each year for properties that are foreclosed on April 1 due to non-payment of property taxes.  The first minimum bid auction occures in September.  The second no-minumum bid auction occures in October.

The first 2011 auction was held on September 17th.

The second no-reserve auction for 2011 was on October 13.

The County Treasurer contracts with Title-Check, LLC to administer tax foreclosure auctions.  Please visit their website, www.tax-sale.info for more information.  Parcel information, along with photographs of foreclosed properties will be available on Title-Check's website approximately 30 days prior to the auction.

DOG LICENSE INFORMATION

Rabies vaccinations are necessary for a license.

Dates for licenses

January 1st - March 31st Fees:

Male/Female=$10.00
Unsexed (spayed or neutered)=$7.00

April 1st - December 31st Fees:

Male/Female=$20.00
Unsexed (spayed or neutered)=$14.00

The County Treasurer sells kennel licenses.  All new kennels must be inspected prior to receiving a kennel license. 

Kennel License=$30.00
