Welcome to the official site of Baraga County in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.  The County was named after Bishop Frederic Baraga who was the Bishop of northern Michigan back in 1853.  Surrounding the southern shores of Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay the villages of L'Anse and Baraga share a portion of the County's 1,069 square miles of which 165 square miles is water of the great Lake Superior and Huron Bay.
