Baraga County,  Michigan is heavily dependent upon electronic information, data storage, and internal and external electronic communications.   Millions of local dollars have been invested over the years in the creation of vital documents, historic data, information archives and the day to day operations of county, township and municipal governments and supporting agencies.   Because of our remoteness, and limited funding and staffing, electronic communication and storage systems are more critical and also more vulnerable that larger counties in the State.  Baraga County like most other UP counties lacks the Information Technology staff and resources that are in place in larger counties.   The realization of this security gap and the readiness of our county to take action is a crucial factor in the need for planning around the Cyber Security and Continuity of Government  solution area.

In planning for information Security, the following projects were undertaken:

  • Information Security Awareness Planning

  • Law Enforcement Information Planning

  • Identity Theft Planning
